Mission Statement

The mission of the Georgia Southern University Dietetic Internship (DI) is to prepare students for leadership and service in the field of dietetics.  Consistent with the mission of Georgia Southern University, this supervised practice program prepares students to become successful entry-level registered dietitians who embrace the values of integrity, collaboration, commitment to lifelong learning, wellness, and social responsibility.

Program Goals & Objectives

Program Goal 1

Prepare program graduates to be successful entry-level registered dietitians in the fields of community nutrition or school nutrition.

Objectives

  1. Over a five-year period, 80% or more of interns enrolled in the dietetic internship program will complete all program requirements within 150% of the time planned for completion (12 months x 150% = 18 months).
  2. Over a five-year period, the pass rate for program graduates taking the registration examination for the first time will be at least 80%.
  3. Over a five-year period, 80% or more of program graduates will rate the dietetic internship program as ‘preparing them well’ for entry-level practice in the fields of community nutrition or school nutrition.
  4. Over a five-year period, 80% or more of program graduates who sought employment in dietetics will be employed within 12 months of program completion.
  5. Over a five-year period, 80% or more of program graduates will be rated as satisfactory by employers.

Program Goal 2

Prepare program graduates for leadership and service in the field of dietetics, while embracing the values of commitment to lifelong learning and social responsibility.

Objectives

  1. Over a five-year period, 50% or more of program graduates will complete continuing education activities or pursue further education, certifications, or degrees (to be measured separately) within one year of program completion.
  2. Over a five year period, 50% or more of program graduates will be active in professional organizations and/or community service.
