Bede and Carrie Mitchell Library Endowment for Nursing
In honor of the impending July 1, 2019 retirement of Bede Mitchell, Ph.D., dean of the Georgia Southern University Libraries, the Friends of Henderson Library have committed to raising $10,000 for the Bede and Carrie Mitchell Library Endowment for Nursing. Dean Mitchell and Carrie Mitchell, R.N., established the Bede and Carrie Mitchell Library Endowment for Nursing to generate revenue in perpetuity, creating a permanent investment account that underwrites book and audio/video purchases and subscriptions to nursing scholarly literature. By spending only a portion of the income from the endowment funds and reinvesting remaining earnings for future growth, the University Libraries are able to provide inflation-adjusted support for much needed scholarly resources for as long as the University exists.
The School of Nursing in the Waters College of Health Professions is committed to helping meet the needs of the multicultural rural populations of the region by providing high quality nursing education programs. The nursing programs incorporate high academic and ethical standards and a caring, learning environment for students consistent with the mission and objectives of the university. The School of Nursing represents a strong and extraordinary community of excellent students, well-prepared faculty, dedicated staff, and supportive alumni and friends that promote and advance the quality, accessibility, and availability of nursing care for the people of southeast Georgia and beyond.
The School of Nursing academic programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, and all pre-licensure programs are fully approved by the Georgia Board of Nursing.
