Helping the Community Through Bowling
American Business Clubs (AMBUCS), is a century-old membership organization dedicated to helping people with disabilities. For the past 50 plus years, Savannah AMBUCS has hosted a League of Exceptional Bowlers for people with various disabilities. On Saturdays, the League is joined by a group of Georgia Southern University Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students for a unique out-of-classroom experience where they spend their time assisting bowlers to promote an inclusive and competitive environment. In addition to the hands-on experience, DPT students have an opportunity to interact with various community members.
Each year, students pursuing careers in the allied health professions and volunteering with AMBUCS are given an opportunity to apply for a Savannah AMBUCS Scholarship. Twelve DPT students have been awarded scholarships totaling over $17,000. Each scholarship ranged from $500 to $3000.
The following DPT students were awarded a scholarship:
- Alexandra Adams
- Luke Thayer
- Mirim Gritis
- Averi Donaldson
- Mary Carpenter
- Nicole Ebel
- Phil Miller
- Kyle Marlow
- Ashley Chafin
- Taylor Lane
