Faculty Publish Paper for American Association of Anatomy
This past June, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences Associate Professor James Karnes, PT, Ph.D., collaborated with three anatomists, Melissa Carroll, Ph.D., Darren Hoffman, Ph.D., and Sheryl Sanders, Ph.D., to write a position paper for the American Association of Anatomy on the importance of cadaver dissection for human anatomy courses. The paper, “Gross Anatomy during the Pandemic: Cadaver Dissection is Essential as a Learning Tool,” examines the use of technology as a substitute for in-person instruction with dissection. The paper argues there is no substitute for the use of cadavers as the most effective student learning as the advantages to cadaver dissection provide a number of advantages not possible nor available with present technologies.
