Two CSDS Students Awarded Scholarships

Two graduate students enrolled in Georgia Southern University’s Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSDS) program have been awarded the inaugural Savannah Scottish Rite Scholarship. Alyssa Corn and Caroline Davis were awarded $1,000 each to be used at their own discretion.

The scholarship opportunity was developed by Savannah Scottish Rite RiteCare Center Chairman David Armstrong, who plans to continue to award the scholarship annually to students enrolled in Georgia Southern’s graduate CSDS program. Applicants had to submit an essay reflecting on what the RiteCare Center means to them.

The Savannah Scottish Rite has provided continuous support over the years to Georgia Southern’s RiteCare Center for Communication Disorders. This support has allowed for the RiteCare Center to obtain resources necessary to provide affordable speech and language therapy services to members of the community, while also providing graduate students in the CSDS program with hands-on learning and training.

Clinical Internship/Practicum Experience Update

Many of the clinical programs offered by the Waters College of Health Professions require a clinical internship or practicum experience to fulfill degree requirements. Pursuant to the University's legal agreements, participants in clinical experiences are required to abide by the workplace rules of the clinical site. The University is aware of recent federal requirements that would mandate vaccination against COVID-19 for those working in certain settings, including health care. At this time, we expect that these new requirements may significantly impact our ability to locate a placement for students who remain unvaccinated. As always, WCHP will continue to make every effort to place students at clinical sites. However, please be aware that we may be unable to locate a site to accept unvaccinated students, which may cause a delay or inability to progress and complete the program of study.
