Nutrition Students Educate the Community

Students from the School of Health and Kinesiology’s community nutrition class, in conjunction with AHEC and East Georgia Healthcare Center, participated in a Migrant Farm Clinic at St. Matthews Catholic Church on Saturday, February 13.  The students who participated included Alex Moreno, Kenley Dean, Tom Nagel, Stephanie Sharron, Hannah Wilson and Chaverle Noel. Participants provided education to attendees on nutrition for diabetes, nutrition for high blood pressure and healthy beverages. Not only does the Migrant Farm Clinic provide service-learning opportunities to students in the health care profession, it provides critically needed services to the under-served populations in rural Georgia. The clinic offers migrant and seasonal farm workers access to health resources through health screening services and health education.
