Third Annual Dietetic Internship Pinning Ceremony
On July 22, the College of Health and Human Sciences’ Dietetic Internship (DI) program hosted its third annual pinning ceremony at the Nessmith-Lane Center. The ceremony is held annually to recognize those who have successfully completed the Dietetic Internship program.
Approximately 90 guests, including friends, families, dietetic interns, preceptors and Georgia Southern University faculty and staff were in attendance. During the ceremony, dietetic interns were presented with a certificate, a verification statement of program completion needed to sit for the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) registration examination for dietitians and an official registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) pin from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

To successfully complete the DI program, students had to complete 13 hours of graduate level coursework and a minimum of 1200 hours of supervised practice experience to include working on a farm, in a school system and in a clinical setting.
In 2014, Georgia Southern University established the Dietetic Internship program and accepted its first class of 20 dietetic interns. The program admits a maximum 20 dietetic interns annually and is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition & Dietetics (ACEND) (http://www.eatrightpro.org/resources/acend) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND).
