Faculty Volunteer in Poverty Simulation
Waters College of Health Professions faculty spent Friday, February 21, 2020, volunteering for the Community Action Poverty Simulation on Georgia Southern University Statesboro Campus hosted by Magnolia Coastlands Area Health Education Center (AHEC). The simulation was an opportunity for student participants to take on the role of a low-income family member living on a limited budget. The experience was divided into four 15-minute sessions, each of which represents one week in which the participants must provide for their families and maintain their homes.
Christina Gipson, Ph.D., Tamerah Hunt, Ph.D., and Padmini Shankar, Ph.D., from the Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology, assisted in staffing resource tables and assumed roles of community organization members.
