This past September, Brandon Loewen, CSCS, a double eagle who has earned an undergraduate and graduate degree in exercise science, worked in collaboration with Department of Health Sciences and Kinesiology faculty members Bridget Melton, Ed.D., Greg Ryan, Ph.D., and Ron Snarr Ph.D., and published the article, “Evidence-Based Exercise for Structural Firefighters-A Brief Review,” in the NSCA Connect. The NSCA Connect is the monthly newsletter of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The purpose of the article was to address key elements used when designing a training program for firefighters. The article provides evidence for utilizing circuit training and suggests recommendations on how to incorporate circuit training into the firefighter training program.
