Georgia Southern Receives Grant for Ethics Training in the Health Professions
The Teagle Foundation has awarded Georgia Southern University a planning grant in the amount of $50,000 for the project “Narrative Competence for Nurses: The Liberal Arts in Professions.” The project will address the need for additional ethics training in the health professions. The Department of Literature, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, Department of History, and Department of Writing and Linguistics in collaboration with the School of Nursing will offer a humanities-based eight-week module that will encourage nursing students to develop a set of skills essential to strengthening their traditional training in ethics within the profession by providing them with opportunities to acknowledge, absorb, interpret and act on the stories and dilemmas of others. The module will focus and expand on two of the main focus areas already in existence in the curriculum of the Professional Nursing Practice course offered by the School of Nursing.
