Discover Scholarships and Financial Aid for Nursing Students

Georgia Southern University provides a variety of scholarships to eligible students through Georgia Southern’s MyScholarships online scholarship application portal. Through this portal, you can easily search, review requirements, apply and accept awards for available scholarships. Participants will get email notifications if further steps such as recommendations, resumes or additional questions are required.

All scholarships are awarded annually during the summer months for both fall and spring semesters. All students will be able to apply for scholarships at the beginning of their first semester.

How to Apply

In order to apply for scholarships, you are required to complete the online scholarship application through the MyScholarships link by the deadlines listed below. Once the application is completed, you are automatically matched with the awards for which you qualify. Students may go in and make updates to the application at any time. If you wish to narrow your application to scholarships available only to nursing students, type “Nursing” in the search box to filter your results.

Those receiving a scholarship will be required to submit a thank you note through MyScholarships. Your application is good for one year.

Current Students: Students currently enrolled at Georgia Southern must complete the scholarship application through MyScholarships to receive consideration for general scholarships and major specific scholarships. Departmental deadlines vary, see below.

Need Based Students: To receive consideration for need-based scholarships, students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Transfer Students: Incoming transfer students accepted for admission to Georgia Southern must complete the scholarship application through the MyScholarships link by May 1st to receive consideration for any merit-based scholarships. Departmental deadlines vary, see below.

Application Deadlines

Please note the following application periods and deadlines for nursing scholarships:

Nursing students currently enrolled (in all programs):	Apply between August 1-August 31 / Awards for the academic year will be made by September 30
Nursing students beginning spring semesters (Junior I only):	Apply between January 1 – January 31 / Awards for spring semester will be made by February 28

Students must submit their Application for Admission to Georgia Southern University to access the Scholarship Application portal. The Scholarship Application portal can be completed as part of the Application for Admission, or it can be submitted separately after applying for admission.

ABBIE DELOACH MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

• Enrolled in the Traditional BSN program
• Full time study is required (minimum of 12 credits)
• Award based on GPA & financial need

ABBIE LORENE DELOACH MEMORIAL NURSING/KAPPA DELTA SCHOLARSHIP

• Full-time study is required (minimum of 12 credits)
• Four scholarship will be awarded each year
• Two recipients annually must be active members of Kappa Delta Sorority at Georgia Southern
• Two recipients annually must have a current permanent residence in the Savannah area (Chatham or surrounding counties)

ALBERT DEAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

• Full time study is required (minimum of 12 credits).
• Award based on GPA & financial need.

AUXILIARY OF EAST GEORGIA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER NURSING SCHOLARSHIP 

Auxiliary of East Georgia Regional Medical Center sponsors four (4) full-year scholarships in the amount of $2,000.00 each.  Recipients receive $1,000.00 Fall Semester and same recipients receive $1,000.00 Spring Semester.

• Recipients must be enrolled in the Prelicensure Nursing Program.
• Recipients must be either a Junior II or Senior I.
• Recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
• Recipients must be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours.)
• First preference given to Bulloch County residents who have graduated from a high school in Bulloch County or have maintained residency in Bulloch County for five years prior to being accepted into the School of Nursing Program to obtain a BSN degree at Georgia Southern University.
• If, in a given year, Bulloch County residents are not found, scholarships may be designated to residents who have graduated from a high school in any of the following surrounding counties or have maintained residency in any of these counties for five years prior to being accepted into the School of Nursing Program to obtain a BSN degree at Georgia Southern University:  Bryan, Candler, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Jenkins, Screven, Tattnall or Toombs.

BERNADETTE T. MESI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN NURSING

• Full-time study is required (minimum of 5 credits)
• Enrolled in the graduate nursing program

BHATIA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP: NURSING

• Full-time study is required (minimum of 12 credits)

LETTIE PATE WHITEHEAD SCHOLARSHIP

The Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation is a charitable, private foundation dedicated to the educational support of needy women. The foundation has provided a scholarship grant to Georgia Southern University for deserving female students accepted into Georgia Southern School of Nursing.

• Applicant must be formally admitted into the BSN, RN-BSN, MSN, or DNP Program

Graduate Traineeship/Stipend Opportunities

ADVANCE NURSING EDUCATION WORKFORCE TRAINEESHIP  

• Applicant must be seeking Nurse Practitioner Education
  • Applicant must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student (5 graduate credits per semester)
  • Traineeship money is available for part-time status if in the final semester of program
• Applicant must work or live in Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) 
• Applicant must be able to complete clinical requirements in undeserved area
• A call for applications will be provided on behalf of the graduate program director, with a deadline for submission

BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WORKFORCE EDUCATION AND TRAINING (BHWET) STIPEND

• Students selected for stipends must be full-time BSN-DNP students in the PMHNP track
• Students must complete all clinicals at the Community Service Board (CSB), Federally Qualified Healthcare Center (FQHC), or individually approved site in the state of Georgia
• Students must agree to strongly consider and pursue employment in an FQHC or CSB after graduation
• One semester before qualifying students begin the PMHNP track, they are notified of eligibility and given further information about securing stipend money. All qualifying students are notified three months in advance of funding so they can make arrangements with qualifying preceptor sites.

Financial Aid Facts

If students have transient permission from Georgia Southern University’s Registrar’s Office to take core courses at another institution, the Financial Aid Office can process a consortium agreement with the other school and process the student’s financial aid. Students must be prepared to pay the fees up front and get reimbursed after the semester is over. The disbursement of financial aid for that semester is done after the grades have been received and posted in our Registrar’s Office.

Grades must be received within a reasonable time frame. If the funds are reconciled for the academic year (July 15th for HOPE, September 30th for federal aid) and the grades are received after that date, we can not disburse the aid. Note that UGA independent study allows students a full year to complete the course, but the student would have to complete it within the normal semester time frame in order to receive the financial aid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who can apply for scholarships?

The School of Nursing has several scholarships available to students formally admitted into any of the nursing programs. Nursing students are NOT eligible for these scholarships until formally admitted into the program.

Are there other scholarships available besides these on the website?

Throughout the year professional organizations and institutions may send information about scholarships they are currently offering. When received, information and copies of applications will be available via My.GeorgiaSouthern email notifications. You should check periodically for new scholarship opportunities that have become available if you are interested.

What are awards based on?

Scholarships are based on specific scholarship criteria outlined on the website and financial need. The data needed to meet these criteria is provided in the MyScholarships application portal. Be sure to complete ALL areas of the application.

When are applications due?

How and when will I be notified of an award?

Letters of notification will be emailed during the summer months, most likely in mid-to-late July.

How and when will I receive my money?

The foundation office will be informed of scholarship recipients in the summer at the same time you receive your notification letter via email. If you have an outstanding balance when fees are due, the award amount will be credited to your account. If you have no outstanding balance or a balance less than your award, you will receive a refund check at your Landrum box or home address (for students without a Landrum box). This should be expected sometime after the second week of the semester.

Do I need to reapply for scholarships every year?

Yes, receipt of a scholarship is for the current academic year ONLY. You need to resubmit an application each spring.

What if I am graduating mid-year?

If you are planning to graduate mid-year (December), go ahead and complete an application indicating you are a Senior II or are a RN-BSN, MSN or DNP student graduating in December. You will be considered for Fall semester financial aid.
